Notes from the Annual Meeting

The following is the notes from the annual meeting that was held on January 22nd, 2015.

If there are any notes or suggestions that someone would like to add please let me know. Ltkrapes@msn.com

The Arvada Running Club will have a group of runners at the following races ...

  • Colorado Marathon and 1/2 Marathon -- May 3rd -- Fort Collins
  • Bolder Boulder -- Memorial Day -- Boulder
  • Hot Chocolate 5k and 15k -- October 3rd ish -- Denver -- Sign up now for the cheaper rates
Other races we are looking at include (but not limited to)...
  • Autumn Color Run -- Buena Vista -- September
  • Basalt 1/2 Marathon -- Basalt -- August
  • Steamboat 1/2 Marathon -- Steamboat -- June
  • Van Arsdale 5k -- Arvada -- May
  • Westwoods 5k -- Arvada -- September
Trisha and Wendy will work on getting the word out for the scholarship by sending letters to counselors and coaches at the Arvada High Schools and Trisha will follow up with an email to get application for the money we have to award from 2014.

For Fundraising for the Scholarship this year we have decided, in addition to the 5K (Rosa will continue to plan) and Buffalo Wild Wings (third Wednesday of every month), we will also host a wine and cheese social gathering once per quarter ... The admission to the event is a donation to the Scholarship Fund. We decided to go this route because it was discussed that most people would rather spend their time socializing versus volunteering at a race ... The dates and hosts for each event are listed below ... I will post addresses closer to each date ...

  • February 26th -- 6:30 pm -- Trisha's House
  • April 23rd -- 6:30 pm -- Mary's Apartment
  • August 6th -- 6:30 pm -- Nancy's House
  • October 8th -- 6:30 pm -- Chris's House
Book Club -- The current Book is still Terri Fox's run across Canada -- When I get a date from Jo Ann I will post it. Please think about if you would like to host the next book club.

Nancy will also be posting on the FaceBook site a workout each week that we would be a great cross training tool.

Wendy will be updating the featured runners in her spare time.

It was discussed that we like the current routes and trail systems that we have been using. There will be a new one opening in North West Arvada soon, so we will try that out as well.

It was talked about for the Tuesday track workouts to try and move them or change the time so more people could attend. It was decided to keep them on Tuesday's but maybe make the time at 6 to make it easier for people. Also, it was brought up that some people don't attend because they think they are too slow. Everyone agreed that no one was too slow and it is much more fun with more people. Lesley has agreed to leading the workouts for another year and Dina has talked about coming to help out as well.

We will also continue the Thursday Hill Repeat workouts (when it is lighter). Those will be at 6:30 every Thursday.

I would like to thank everyone who helps out with the club, the organization, the fundraising, the suggestions and ideas. Without everyone we wouldn't be where we are ...

January 2015 Schedule

January Schedule!

Happy New Year Ladies! I’m so excited to have the opportunity to get to run with you all and have you continue to support, inspire and encourage each other. It has been an amazing journey thus far and I look forward to what the future holds.

I have been put in charge of starting a running club at Weber Elementary School and am looking for volunteers that could possibly help run with kids, encourage kids etc. The school club will be running the Frank Shorter 5K in April. I’m looking for high school kids (maybe needing volunteer hours) or adults. Please contact me if you know someone that would be willing to help out, even if it is only once a month or for the race at the end. It will be on Thursday afternoons from 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm. Ltkrapes@msn.com

January 3, 2014 – 8:00 am – meet at the dog park on 64th Ave just west of Virgil Way. If the Fairmont trail is clear you can run that, otherwise the route around the res is always fun and challenging.  I will not be in town during this run, but I will think of all of you! Please post on the FaceBook reminder if you can help out on this run in any way.

January 11th, 2014 – 8:00 am – meet at Anderson Park on 44th and Field, the parking lot furthest south. We will run the Clear Creek trail. If someone can put an aide station at Youngfield that would be great. Some people will be upping their mileage in the coming weeks so it would be nice to have water out there for us.

January 18th, 2014 – 7:30 am – meet at Starbucks at 64th and Ward, we will be carpooling up to Lookout Mountain to run a fantastic hill filled run at Angela’s house.

Thursday January 22, 2014 – 6:00 pm – We will have the annual meeting at my house (please email me if you need my address) to discuss new opportunities that have been presented to me, talk about the scholarship that we have to give away, races that we would like to see on the calendar and what changes we would like to see happen. If you are unable to attend and would like to volunteer in some way or have some items you would like discussed please contact me … Ltkrapes@msn.com

January 25th, 2014 – 8:00 am – meet at the Arvada Tennis courts on 64th and Miller and we will run the Ralston Creek Trail. If someone can do the aide station on Elderidge that would be great. Please let me know.
